Work From Home - That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it! I've had a very busy past week or two, coupled with the fact that I've been working from home and being able to enjoy it, I have just not wanted to talk hair because outside of last weekend, hair has not been on my mind. I have gone days without touching my hair. I did a full head baggie for a few days, I've co-washed a few days, but nothing major.
I am slightly disappointed by the fact that I thought through regular maintenance my new growth would be more manageable when it grew this time. With all the scalp massaging and oil treatments, I thought I'd be able to comb it this time. Nope. I'm about 7 weeks post and I can barely detangle. I can say that my scalp isn't sore. Yay for small victories.

You might think this is crazy and other naturals feel free to weight in...but when I was growing my hair out to go natural, other natural people said the hair that grows out initially will be rougher and they called it scar hair. A lot of people I know have had this experience, they told me the science behind it but I forgot, but I can say my hair is much softer now then it was when I first went natural. Of course all of the maintenance and conditioning have compounded the results so we can't tease out the actual reason for the manageability, but I have heard of the new growth that grows right after your last relaxer being extremely rough and mine was as well...although you are not going natural, the time in between your last relaxer is kind of like a transition period so you may be experiencing something similiar to those who are transitioning..
ReplyDeleteI meant "weigh" in...fyi...
ReplyDeleteYeah, I recall you mentioning that to me before. You know, I don't really have the issue when I allow my hair to dry separated. Just when it gets to matte together when I air dry. I hope it doesn't last forever?! I know lots of people who stretch and their hair isn't like this. Maybe I just need to DC more often?
